Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce and the Grey County O.P.P. are hoping to recover an unusual item that was stolen on October 18, 2005.

The victim, an 11 year-old autistic boy in the company of a teacher's aide, entered the Country Critters store in Markdale at about 11:00 a.m.  The youth had his "Vantage Voice Output Device" which he and his teacher placed in a shopping cart within the store as they browsed.  That device is valued at $11,400.00 and enables the young man to type in messages that are translated to voice output.  The unit was in a black laptop computer case with a long carrying strap.  A lone woman, described as being 35-45 years, entered the store during the time frame the device was taken.

The device itself is computerized and has the appearance of a small black electric typewriter.  The keyboard is white or gray with pictures to identify the keys.  The probability is high that the person who stole it thought it was a laptop computer and when they find out what it is they may dump it somewhere.
